Here are some cool OSX apps.

When I use my laptop away from my desk I use the internal speakers. Every time I go back to my desk I have to go into system preferences and choose my monitors as my new audio output, so I can listen through the bigger speakers I have. The first app, “sound sorce”, puts a little icon in your menu bar and lets you change sources with a single click, and change your volume.

There is also an app called, “memory cell” that tells you how much ram your programs are using. This can be useful if you didn’t realize how much you’re slowing yourself down by having Mail, Safari, Pages, Text Edit, iChat, Firefox, Pro Tools, Live, and Reason open at the same time. I dig it. Right now my Firefox is using 184 MB. Cool.

The last one is a pong screen saver. Can’t beat that.

There is nothing that I love more than making myself more efficient. It’s about one of my favorite things in the world. It’s one of my three hobbies: Editing video, editing photos, messing with my computer. I don’t do music for fun anymore… I mean, how lame is that? You gotta carry stuff, practice, blah blah blah…. I’d much rather get paid for doing all that junk. Sometimes I still have fun doing it, but it’s not quite a hobby. Your profession can’t be your hobby. Or shouldn’t.

The guitar players for UFO are plain awesome. Nowadays it’s all about hundreds of tones and boat loads of delay. Back in this day it was about plugging in, dialing up a sweet tone and never looking at the amp again. Now we’re talkin.

This type of guitar player still has access to a ton of tones just from his hands. Your volumes knob, pickups, and pick itself can do the talking if you’re skilled enough. That’s sort of what I like about these players. There’s nothing to hide behind.
